Today we had to give notice of marriage and that makes things feel real!
In Oxfordshire, the council cannot guarantee/confirm the registrar unless we have given notice of our intent to marry. You have to give notice at least 2 weeks before you plan to get married, so 9 months ahead of time did seem a bit early to us, but we wanted to get our registrar confirmed so we were happy to go and get it out of the way.
After reading various bits and pieces about this on wedding forums, we were a little nervous. We knew we would get asked questions about ourselves but we didn’t really know what to expect.
I was nearly late, after needing to find a parking space but we were there just in time in the end. The whole thing was just fine in the end. It mostly consisted of the lady at the registry office filling out a form with the usual pieces of information you’d expect: names, ages, jobs, addresses etc..
We were in and out within half an hour and that was it. We’d given notice of marriage!
Now that the formal and legal stuff is out of the way, is it too early to start thinking about fun details like the invitations or the dress?? I think not!
