Giving Notice of Marriage – 30/08/2013

Today we had to give notice of marriage and that makes things feel real! In Oxfordshire, the council cannot guarantee/confirm the registrar unless we have given notice of our intent to marry. You have to give notice at least 2 weeks before you plan to get married, so 9 months ahead of time did seem a bit early to us, but we wanted to get our registrar confirmed so we were happy to go and get it out of the way. After reading various bits and pieces about this on wedding forums, we were a little nervous. We knew we…

DIY Used Can Vases

We have recently ended up with about 25 empty beer cans, following many weeks of a couple of Friday night beers and a complacency about taking the recycling out. I thought to myself that there must be something that used cans could be used for in a DIY Wedding. So I’ve come up with a really simple way to transform the cans into something useful and something that can be used for good effect. Enjoy these DIY used can vases! *Supplies Needed*:  1. Wedding Flowers: Keeping Costs Down

Wedding Flowers: Keeping Costs Down

The wedding flowers: one of the most beautiful components of a wedding. They can define the wedding. The flowers can turn a wedding from glamorous and seductive one to a rustic and simple one. They can be used to emphasise a bold colour scheme or can be used to help neutralise colours. In a nutshell then, wedding flowers can make or break a wedding, which is why they can be so expensive. Sure, you could skip the flowers altogether, but they are definitely a ‘nice to have’ and what a great excuse to decorate your tables with some of the…

The Wedding Guest List Guide

The Wedding Guest List Guide

Your budget will define your entire wedding. It will decide where you can have it, what type/style of wedding you can have, the food, the drink, the dress, the favours, the photographer, the cake and many more things. That actually falls mainly to one huge thing: your wedding budget will define how many wedding guests you can have. DIY Wedding Garter

DIY Wedding Garter

The wedding garter has quite a specific history and background. Traditionally a bride used to wear a garter to her wedding and this would be removed by the groom and/or all the groomsmen towards the end of the wedding reception. To remove an item of the bride’s clothing used to be seen as good luck. Nowadays, only the groom removes the bride’s garter and tosses it to the unmarried men at the reception. This is normally done after the bouquet toss. Not all brides and grooms do the garter removal/toss, but most brides like to wear a garter to their wedding.…

Wedding Questions – 31/05/2013

Wedding Questions – 31/05/2013

We’ve spent the last week rethinking our wedding plans and our approach to the wedding. We’ve gone through quite the cycle of changing our minds about what kind of day we would like. We’ve now more or less agreed that we don’t particularly want a big, long day that starts at 2pm. We’d prefer to kick things off from 4pm and go more or less straight into an evening reception with some food, drink, cake and then dancing. Over the weekend, Groom took me out to an al fresco lunch in the glorious sunshine and we had a good long talk…

The Wedding Budget – 13/05/2013

The Wedding Budget – 13/05/2013

In this entry we need to tackle one big wedding topic that tends to lead the way in planning and also often what either makes things happen or stops things from happening: the wedding budget. Apparently the average wedding in the UK costs around £20,000. When Groom and I heard these numbers, we are completely flabbergasted. I didn’t really believe these costs until some of my friends were planning their weddings and both of them confirmed that they were spending in the region of £25,000 each. We cannot comprehend spending that much money on one day. We appreciate that it…
