Dress Debacle – 28/10/2013

The wedding dress arrived today! I could hardly wait to get home from work to try it on! Upon opening the box and pulling the dress out, I instantly knew that I’d made the right choice. The colour was a sandy, oyster colour. Not your traditional wedding colour, I know, but with the tulle and the immaculate sequin work, it was transformed into a beautiful bridal number. The dress, which was too long (no surprise there for a 5’3 half pint), but it had that beautiful soft mermaid shape, with a slit up the middle. Tulle overlays the skirting all the…

Wedding Dress Guide Part 2: Cut

Wedding Dress Guide Part 2: Cut

In part 2 of this guide, we will be talking about the cut of the dress. This will help you decide on the overall basic cut of the dress, as well as help you think about things such as, whether you would like it to be long or short, tightly fitting or a looser fit. If you haven’t yet seen our introduction to the Wedding Dress Guide, check that out first. Broadly speaking, the cuts/silhouettes of the dresses fall into 5 main categories: Ball gown/princess: The classic princess cut, with its big, full skirting is a glamorous and fun option. The ball…

The wedding dress will, for some of you, be the most important (and potentially most extravagant) item you buy for your wedding. Others might not be that fussed and aren’t too worried about it. Many of you will want a dress that will look good and that you will love, on a more modest budget. One thing that all brides will have in common though: they want to feel good in their wedding dress. The Wedding Dress Search Begins – 18/10/2013

The Wedding Dress Search Begins – 18/10/2013

The Dress: some would argue that it’s one of the most important factors of a wedding for the bride. And people often suggest that a bride is lying if she says she hasn’t started looking online for a dress or if she has absolutely no idea what she would like her dress to look like. So it falls to reason that I might be telling a lie if I said that I got engaged in March and by October I still hadn’t started searching for a dress. And indeed, I have been searching (online at least) for ‘the dress,’ probably since…

Wedding Invitations Done – 17/10/2013

Wedding Invitations Done – 17/10/2013

The wedding invitations we ordered last week have arrived and they look amazing! We ordered our wedding invitations from Wedding Paper Divas. They do an amazing sample service where you get to choose 8 free samples and they also send an entire sample kit. This includes a variety of different items, including paper types, colours, envelope types and lots more. We first ordered the sample kit and 8 free samples a few weeks ago. The samples we ordered were all beautiful, and actually we couldn’t choose one of them! Instead, we chose a completely different one. We knew from the…

The finer wedding details – 08/10/2013

The finer wedding details – 08/10/2013

It’s nice to be able to search for and think about the finer wedding details; Invitations, flowers and, more importantly, the dress! The invitations have actually been ordered (order placed this morning!), so hopefully they should arrive next week. I’ll do a blog entry on those when they arrive. Along with the invitations, we have been thinking about flowers because our reception venue has an agreement with one of the ladies who live nearby. She does the flowers for the restaurant and because the style is very romantic, French, vintage shabby chic, they recommended I get in touch with her…

Wedding Invitation Guide

Save The Dates, Wedding Day Invitations, Evening Reception Invitations, RSVP cards, inserts etc. etc…! I agree, it’s enough to make anyone’s head explode. But rest assured that this guide will hopefully help you get to where you need to be with choosing your wedding invitations. Initial thoughts: – Your wedding invitations are, for most of your guests, the first thing they see that is related to your wedding. It is literally their first impression of your day. – This means you might want to think about how you want your wedding to be perceived: this depends on whether you worry…

The In-Laws turn to see the venues – 06/10/2013

So as my Dad and sisters came up to see our wedding venues a few weeks ago, it is only fair that my soon-to-be in-laws come up and have a look too. After all, they only live an hour away in North-West London. They were thrilled when we invited them up for the day and they jumped at the chance to come up. We also found out that they hadn’t actually been to Oxford for about 20 years! We had a lovely day, wondering around the city (it was a sunny day!). Because it was a Sunday, we couldn’t actually…

Wedding Invitation Confusion – 30/09/2013

Wedding Invitation Confusion – 30/09/2013

If you are a bride, planning your wedding, then you probably got overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choice on the World Wide Web. This goes for any product or aspect of the wedding, be it venues, dresses or flowers. In fact, no aspect of weddings is exempt from the saturated market that is the wedding industry. Wedding invitations are no exception to this rule. I’ll admit: I started the search for wedding invitations well before we had even decided whether we were having our wedding in the UK or abroad. I thought it would be a nice and easy…

Father of the Bride’s opinion – 19/09/2013

It has been a while since I posted an update. Admittedly, we have somewhat allowed ourselves to relax since we booked our ceremony and reception venues, and since we gave notice of marriage and booked our registrar. Phew! To me, these were the main things that were important to get booked before we could go ahead with anything else, so as soon as they were confirmed, a huge weight felt like it had been lifted off my shoulders. Also, in the meantime, one of my sisters has come over to the UK from Cyprus to begin her first year of…
